The Western Sydney Wanderers have taken three points with a 2-1 victory in Adelaide after Lee Falkon scored a second half winner on Friday night in the Westfield W-League.
Dutchwoman Marlous Pieete scored the game’s opener after 23 minutes for Wanderers before classy US import Makenzy Doniak equalised later in the half.
Doniak produced an expertly taken strike, sending the ball into the top corner following Jenna McCormick’s long ball in to spark the attack in the penalty area.
A tap-in from Alyssa Mautz was ruled offside and Alex Chidiac’s venomous strike crashed against the post in the second half as the Reds pushed for a winner.
But Falkon had the final say with 18 minutes left at Marden Sports Complex.
The Wanderers attacker took advantage of some space in Reds territory to secure a huge win for the Red & Black on the road.
The result sees Wanderers edge closer to the top four, now on seven points in eighth position, just ahead of Adelaide on four points.
