An understrength Western Sydney Wanderers have been eliminated from the FFA Cup after going down 3-0 to Melbourne City in their Quarter Final clash at AAMI Park.
The Wanderers, chasing a third straight FFA Cup Semi Final appearance, did well in the first 30 minutes but were brought undone by an unfortunate mistake that allowed City to take the lead in the 34th minute by Craig Noone.
The home side doubled the lead right before half time when Jamie Maclaren scored, though there was a strong hint of offside.
The Red & Black’s best chance came right before the end of the first half when Radoslaw Majewski set up Kwame Yeboah with a lovely pass but the attacker’s left footed effort went over the bar.
The Wanderers started the second half strongly and looked as though they were getting back into the game with Mo Adam and Bruce Kamau fashioning good chances.
Head coach Markus Babbel made three changes during the match that saw the Red & Black end up finishing the game with a number of players from the Wanderers Academy.
