Western Sydney Wanderers new signing Nick Fitzgerald says his arrival at the club comes at the right time of his career.

Western Sydney Wanderers new signing Nick Fitzgerald says his arrival at the club comes at the right time of his career.

Fitzgerald will be embarking on his ninth season in the Hyundai A-League with the Wanderers next season and believes the league has gone from strength-to-strength since his first season back in 2009 with the Central Coast Mariners.

“I think the game is improving every single year, from what I’ve noticed coming through as a junior is that the level has been really raised,” said Fitzgerald.

“Little stuff like, strength and conditioning has played a really big part in the game over the last couple of years and we see teams that are the fittest go further in the season.

“Technically, the game has gotten better. It’s now a very technical game and the competition has come in leaps and bounds since I started.”

The pacy defender comes to the Wanderers after arguably one of the best seasons in his career with Fitzgerald hoping to prove his worth to the Red & Black faithful.

“Coming to the Wanderers has been a great opportunity. It’s an honour for me to sign for the club,” says Fitzgerald.

“I’m looking forward to getting started and repaying the faith the club has given to get me out here and put in some good performances.”

Fitzgerald joins fellow teammates Bruce Kamau and Ruon Tongyik as the Wanderers squad starts to take shape for 2018/19.

“They’re great players (Kamau and Tongyik) as well which helps, they’re not only great lads but they’re also great players which helps because we want to build a good culture at the club,” explained Fitzgerald.

“I think they are fantastic guys and they will fit in well.”
