Here’s what we learned from Saturday night’s 1-0 victory in the Sydney Derby.
1. Resilience
Some might call it good fortune, but there was more than a touch of resilience and character from the Wanderers to hold tight against the constant onslaught.
There’s a toughness and determination about this side that has been missing for several seasons.
2. It will only get better
With Patrick Ziegler back on the bench, Bruce Kamau and Tarek Elrich to come back from injury and the arrival of Nicolai Muller, there’s going to be some incredible depth in the Wanderers squad.
The fight for starting positions is about to heat up.
3. Daniel Lopar
Lopar is already shaping up to be on the signings of the season.
The Swiss goalkeeper has quickly become a favourite with our members and fans, not to mention his teammates who are in awe of his outstanding work between the sticks.

4. Pirmin Schwegler
Schwegler has been one of the standouts in the Wanderers unbeaten run but he took it to another level in the Sydney Derby.
The midfielder made his own battle with Alex Baumjohann in what was an enthralling contest with Schwegler making some unbelievable tackles.
5. Fortress Wanderland
The Wanderers will be chasing their fourth straight win at Bankwest Stadium this Saturday night when they play Brisbane Roar.
The new stadium is rapidly becoming a place to be feared by the opposition.
