FNSW League One Preview: Spartans v Wanderers

The Western Sydney Wanderers FNSW Leagues One side make the short trip to face Blacktown Spartans in the final round of the season behind closed doors.

The side, currently sitting in fourth, will be hoping to climb a couple of places with a victory, and also harbour a chance of clinching the minor premiership if other results go their way.

The boys in Red & Black are hitting form at the right time, after a small blip in June, the side has won four in a row scoring 16 goals in that time.

Three of those goals came in their last round victory over St George FC; it was the Jarrod Carluccio and Zac Sapsford show as the former scored one and assisted the latter twice in a 3-1 victory.

Sapsford has slotted seamlessly into the team and is offering another dimension in attack, the striker has six goals in six games.

New signing Calem Nieuwenhoff also debuted last week, and showed encouraging signs in the middle of the park.

Whilst Blacktown are out of finals contention, they cannot be taken lightly, they have only lost one of their last six games, and they managed to secure a 2-2 draw away to heavyweights
Central Coast.

Emmanuel Gonzalez scored twice, leaving the striker with 10 goals this season, meaning that Alex Bonetig and Dean Pelekanos will be given a stern challenge at the back.

The Wanderers put on an attacking masterclass in the reverse fixture, having a 5-0 lead after 38 minutes and eventually emerging 7-1 winners.

Carluccio scored a double that night, whilst George Antonis also got on the scoresheet.

Whilst their finals spot is already secure, a win would be crucial for the Wanderers, as it would mean the difference between facing an elimination final or having a vital second chance in the
finals series.
