The road to Australia Cup glory begins in Canberra this Wednesday night.
The Wanderers will open their 2026 Hahn Australia Cup campaign on Wednesday 22 July, taking on Tigers FC at McKellar Park, with a place in the Round of 16 on the line.
Before the Red & Black begin their pursuit of cup success, we take a closer look at the Canberra-based club standing in their way.
A club built on history and community
Tigers FC is a club with deep roots in the Canberra football community, carrying a proud history that dates back more than seven decades.
The club’s origins can be traced back to Cooma Football Club, which was formed in 1952 by workers involved in the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme. Following the completion of the project, many founding members relocated to Canberra, helping establish the foundations of the football community that would eventually become Tigers FC.
Today, Tigers FC has grown into a club representing players across boys’, girls’, men’s and women’s competitions, with a strong focus on developing footballers at every level.
A club on the rise
The Wanderers’ first Australia Cup challenge comes against a Tigers FC side enjoying a period of significant success.
Their NPL Men’s First Grade team has established itself as one of Capital Football’s leading sides, claiming premiership honours in 2021 and 2025, before lifting the Federation Cup in 2026.
That Federation Cup triumph secured Tigers FC their place in this year’s Hahn Australia Cup, giving the Canberra club the opportunity to test themselves against A-League Men opposition on the national stage.
Growing the game in Canberra
Beyond their senior success, Tigers FC continues to build a strong pathway for the next generation.
The club fields junior teams across boys’ and girls’ competitions, with recent success across their age groups helping drive continued growth.
In 2026, Tigers FC also marked a historic milestone with the introduction of their first-ever women’s team, further expanding the club’s football pathway.
The first step in the Cup journey
The Australia Cup has always been a competition where clubs from across the country get their chance to make history.
For Tigers FC, Wednesday night represents an opportunity to showcase their growth and ambition.
For the Wanderers, it is the first step on the road towards another cup campaign… a chance to embrace the challenge, rise to the occasion and chase silverware.
The journey begins in Canberra.
