Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed the signing of defender Doni Grdić for the upcoming A-Leagues season.
Grdić is set to play in the A-Leagues for the first time in his career having been based in Croatia since 2019 with side HNK Šibenik.
The towering defender has frequented Australian national youth teams and was recently on loan to Bijelo Brdo where he featured in 13 games during the 2022/23 Croatian season.
Head coach Marko Rudan welcomed the youngster back to Australia.
“We welcome Doni back to Australia in what is set to be an exciting season in the A-Leagues,” said Rudan.
“Doni has some fantastic defensive traits that we will look to continue to develop over the next year.”
Grdić said he was ready for the new challenge in Western Sydney.
“It’s a new challenge and a fantastic setup of the club. I spoke with the head coach (Marko Rudan) and I liked his plan so it inspired me to come help the team and myself,” said Grdić.
“I watched many A-Leagues games because the games are televised here in Croatia so I know it’s not an easy league to play.
“I was also in many Australian National Team camps so I know the level of the young players too.
“For the team, I hope we can win a trophy because we want to make the member and fans happy. Especially because the club deserves it because of the amazing history and set-up of the club.
“On a personal level, I wanted to get more experienced and be a better player. Hopefully, I will be at the Olympics next year.”
