Wanderers new signing Sophie Harding on establishing herself at the Red & Black this Liberty A-Leagues season.
Harding joins the Wanderers from a recent stint at Newcastle Jets where she made 25 appearances over two seasons.
The 23 year is old is now set for her third season of the Liberty A-League competition and is excited to see what she can achieve with the Red & Black this season.
“I’m very happy to be at the Wanderers,” said Harding.
“I’ve grown up in Sydney so I always wanted to play for a Sydney club. The Wanderers are a well established club with great facilities, coaches and players so I’m very excited to see what we can accomplish this year.”
Known for her pace and skill on the ball, Harding played her grassroots football at Harbord Seasiders United in Brookvale before making the move to Manly United where she made her first team debut in 2015.
Harding continued to ply her trade in the Football NSW National Premier League Women’s and after a successful season with the North West Sydney Koalas in 2019, which saw her score 19 goals in 44 matches, Harding grabbed the attention of Liberty A-Leagues side Newcastle Jets.
“At Newcastle, I think I was able to really establish myself as a professional player,” said Harding.
“It was a great place for me to gain confidence and realise my potential.
“Now at the Wanderers, I need to apply myself in all areas to maximise that potential and put on good performances for the club.”
The arrival of Harding in Western Sydney brings plenty of excitement for the upcoming Liberty A-Leagues season with the forward eager to achieve her goals at the club.
“As a player my instinct when I get the ball is to go forward, take on players, try and score myself or set up one of my team mates,” said Harding.
“I love an attacking brand of football and am looking forward to working with my team mates to achieve that.
“This season is very exciting, we have a lot of young talent who are willing to work really hard and I think that we can be very hard to beat.
“For me, I want to score as many goals as I can and pick up as many assists as possible. And as for the team of course, the goal is finals football, I think with the right mentality we have the ability to do that.”
The Red & Black will open their Liberty A-League season with an away match in Tamworth against the Newcastle Jets on Saturday 26 November 2022. You will be able to stream the match live on Paramount+ and 10PLAY.
