History Made: Wanderers Girls Academy Lift U16 Grand Final Trophy

The Western Sydney Wanderers Girls Academy have been crowned U16 Champions, capping off a remarkable season with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Manly FC in the Grand Final.

From the opening whistle, the Wanderers stamped their intent, creating wave after wave of attacking opportunities.

Clever build-up play from Frida Karaberis, Brigette White, and Sophie Aungle set up early chances for Alara Turkkan and Grace McCreery, only to be denied by Manly’s goalkeeper.

At the other end, Helayna Gibson stood tall between the posts, producing key saves to keep the score locked at 0-0 heading into the break.

The breakthrough came in the 63rd minute when Kyani Dos Santos unleashed a precise volley to put the Wanderers in front.

Manly quickly responded, levelling the score with a free kick from distance. With neither side able to break the deadlock, the contest entered extra time.

In a decisive moment, Brigette White was fouled inside the penalty area, and Madena Moussa stepped up with nerves of steel to bury the spot-kick and restore the Wanderers’ lead.

With just seven tense minutes remaining, the defensive quartet of Annabella Scibberas, Charley Fredericks, Charlotte Ellery, and Zofiya Gwozdecky held firm, while Daria Raguz played a pivotal role linking play through midfield.
