Holmes signs one-year deal with Red & Black

Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Jordan Holmes from Queensland National Premier League side Rochedale Rovers for the upcoming 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

Holmes is no stranger to the Isuzu UTE A-League competition, having previously been part of Brisbane Roar for two seasons (2021 to 2023) where he featured in 37 games for the club.

At the age of 16, Holmes was signed to English side A.F.C Bournemouth where he plied his trade for seven years as the club moved from League 1, to Championship and finally the Premier League.

The goalkeeper has also represented Australia at a national team level, previously being selected as part of the Young Socceroos and Olyroos squads, making 12 appearances and featuring in the Olympic squad in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Head coach Alen Stajcic said he was delighted to bring a local back to the club.

“It’s great to be able to bring a Western Sydney local back home to support the depth and quality of our team,” said Stajcic.

“With A-Leagues experience already, Jordan will provide much needed experience to bolster our Goalkeeping stocks.”

Growing up supporting the Wanderers, Holmes spoke about how special it was to sign with the club.

“When the club came in, as a kid I thought “Yeah this is the club to follow,” and it’s nice to see the West of Sydney being appreciated for everything they have to offer out here,” said Holmes.

“I am proud to come back from England, to Queensland, and finally back to Western Sydney to represent such a great club.”

Holmes also said he was looking forward to embracing the new challenge.

“Joining the club always appealed to me, being a Wanderers fan growing up, and having my Mum growing up in the west of Sydney, it was a no-brainer to join,” explained Holmes.

“I will bring passion, desire and a hunger to win in the upcoming season, and I’m excited about the challenge ahead.

“It’s a massive club and being able to do well and reach finals football for a club from such a passionate area would mean a lot.”
