Ins & Outs for Sunday’s match against the Mariners

Tony Popovic has named his squad for Sunday’s Hyundai A-League Round 19 match against Central Coast Mariners at Spotless Stadium.

Tickets to the game are still available here.

Two players come into the squad, with Mitch Nichols returning after being rested last weekend and Scott Neville coming back into the side after serving his one-game suspension.

The match looms as a big milestone for Nichols: should the midfielder take to the field on Sunday, he’ll become just the 19th player to notch up 200 A-League appearances.

Mariners

Both the Wanderers and the Mariners will be full of confidence heading to the match following handsome wins last weekend.

The Red & Black came away from their trip across the Tasman with three points after a 3-1 win against the Phoenix, while the Mariners notched their second consecutive win with a 2-1 victory over Adelaide United.

Recent history though leans heavily in the Wanderers’ favour: the Red & Black are undefeated against the Mariners since April 2015, having won four of the last five games.

Santa

When the Wanderers play the Mariners at home, that undefeated streak goes back even further, to the first week of 2013.

A big part of Western Sydney’s recent success against the Mariners is due to striker Brendon Santalab: he’s scored in every one of the last five games between the pair.
