Ins & Outs: Sydney Derby

Head coach Geoff Abrahams has named his extended squad for Saturday night’s fixture against Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium.

The Western Sydney Wanderers travel to Allianz Stadium on Saturday night for the Ninja A-League Sydney Derby, aiming to carry their momentum from last weekend’s 2-1 win over Central Coast Mariners. Holly Caspers was the standout for the Red & Black, scoring twice and showing the kind of composure and attacking threat the Wanderers will look to replicate in front of the Sky Blues.

Sydney FC come into the derby off the back of a 0-0 draw with Perth Glory, and will be looking to make home advantage count. The Sky Blues have shown defensive solidity in recent matches, but the Wanderers’ mix of experience and emerging talent including the work of Sham Khamis, Talia Younis, and Yuan Cong will aim to test them throughout the 90 minutes.

Last time these two sides met earlier this season, the Wanderers fought hard to earn a 0-0 draw, with strong defensive organisation and attacking intent matching Sydney FC’s intensity. Building on that performance, the Red & Black will be focused on creating early chances, staying composed under pressure, and turning attacking opportunities into points on the road.
