The Western Sydney Wanderers are on the verge of securing a spot in the A-League Men’s finals, needing a win against Melbourne City in their final home match of the regular season. Currently sitting on 39 points—five ahead of sixth-placed Sydney FC and six ahead of seventh-placed Adelaide—a win combined with an Adelaide loss would seal their finals berth.
Alen Stajcic’s side are also chasing a top-four finish and looking to close the gap on second-placed City, who they trail by four points. The Wanderers are hitting form at the perfect time, unbeaten in nine games and having won their last four at home.

Their latest 2-0 win over in-form Western United showcased both attacking flair and defensive resilience, highlighted by standout performances from Alex Gersbach—who scored his first A-League goal and set up the second—and centre-backs Anthony Pantazopoulos and Alex Bonetig, who helped secure a crucial fourth clean sheet of the season.
Western Sydney continue to lead the league in goals scored (52), and their defensive efforts are catching up. They will be aiming to complete the double over Melbourne City, having beaten them 2-0 earlier in the season.
However, City come into the match on a three-game winning streak and boast the league’s best defence, setting up an exciting clash between attack and defence at CommBank Stadium.
