Ins & Outs: Wanderers v Wellington

Western Sydney Wanderers FC head coach Alen Stajcic has named his extended squad for Sunday’s clash against Wellington Phoenix at CommBank Stadium

The Wanderers host Wellington Phoenix on Sunday evening for their second consecutive home game in the A-League Men.

After a strong away win over Melbourne City, the Wanderers were frustrated in their 2-2 draw with Brisbane Roar last Saturday.

Brandon Borrello shone with two first-half goals, including a stunning free-kick, but an own goal and a Roar counterattack prevented a win. The result kept the Wanderers just outside the Top Six.

Wellington, meanwhile, are coming off a 2-1 home loss to Macarthur, their second consecutive defeat. Struggling with inconsistency, Giancarlo Italiano’s side sits just inside the top six, having won and lost three matches each this season.

The Phoenix have been impacted by the departures of striker Oskar Zawada and goalkeeper Alex Paulsen, though the return of Marco Rojas and the addition of Paulo Retre have provided some reinforcements. Despite scoring just nine goals this season, they boast the league’s third-best defence with only seven goals conceded.
