Kerr fires Perth to glory

The Western Sydney Wanderers were defeated by Perth Glory 1-0 on Friday night at Marconi Stadium.

A goal in the second half by Sam Kerr was the only thing that separated the two sides with the Wanderers unlucky to have not shared the points after a number of chances.

Captain Ellie Brush put in a great shift, being called into action early to break up Perth’s play on a number of occasions.

The Red & Black had multiple chances to find the opener in the first half but Perth’s Melissa Maizels denied the Wanderers each time.

Erica Halloway was left in a one-on-one and Rosie Sutton broke through Perth’s defence with both chances collected by Maizels.

match report

Kerr’s goal came in the 50th minute after rounding Jada Whyman and finding the empty net.

Marlous Pieëte looked to have pulled one back minutes later after curling in a beautiful strike that landed on top of the netting.

Perth held on for the win and despite a number of chances for the Red & Black, the Wanderers were unlucky to have conceded defeat.

The Wanderers will now move on to next week’s Sydney Derby double header played at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 9 December.
