Wanderer Bozhidar Kraev featured in Bulgaria’s starting line-up but was unable to prevent his side from suffering a 2-1 defeat to the Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium.
The result saw Ireland secure a 4-2 aggregate victory, condemning Bulgaria to relegation to League C of the UEFA Nations League.
Kraev was influential in the opening stages, helping Bulgaria control possession and push forward in search of an early goal.
The visitors were rewarded in the 30th minute when Valentin Antov found the back of the net, levelling the aggregate score at 2-2 and putting Bulgaria in contention to turn the tie around.
However, Ireland responded strongly after half-time. Evan Ferguson struck in the 63rd to restore Ireland’s advantage before substitute Adam Idah sealed the victory with a late goal in the 84th minute.
Despite Kraev’s efforts to create chances in midfield, Bulgaria was unable to break through Ireland’s disciplined defense in the closing stages.
The defeat means Bulgaria will now compete in League C in the next Nations League campaign, while Ireland retains its League B status. For Kraev, the focus now shifts back to his club duties with Western Sydney Wanderers, as he continues to play a key role for both club and country.
