League One Wrap: Wanderers notch fourth successive win after defeating St George

The Western Sydney Wanderers FNSW League One side notched up their fourth successive win, defeating St George FC 3-1 at Rockdale Ilinden Sports Centre.

Zac Sapsford bagged a brace to take his tally to six goals in six games at the club, whilst Jarrod Carluccio also scored and was the provider for the other goals.

It was a cagey start to the match with both sides attempting to gain a foothold in the match, Aidan Simmons’ dangerous cross on 15 minutes almost found Connor Rose, but the winger was
unable to divert it goalwards.

The Wanderers would have the breakthrough with the first real chance of the match in the 27th minute, after a passing move involving multiple players, Rose was able to tee up Carluccio, who
was able to poke the ball past Andrew Di Blasio to give his side the lead.

Carluccio also assisted the second goal right on half time, as the winger ran onto a pass from Alex Badolato and was able to square the ball to Sapsford, who fired the ball into the goal.

Sapsford almost doubled his tally shortly after the restart, but he was unable to find the target after a mazy run.

He would not be denied his double though, as he was able to get on the end of another quality Carluccio ball and execute a quality first time finish in the 56th minute.

Carluccio and Aidan Simmons then went close to scoring, before the home side got a goal back through Cam Philpot in the 76th minute.

The returning Jack Warshawsky pulled off a fantastic save three minutes later to deny the hosts once again, and the Wanderers were able to safely see off the final 10 minutes to secure an important victory.

The win was the side’s 14th of the season, they have their final regular season game next week as they make the short trip to face Blacktown Spartans.
