Match Preview: Sydney Derby

Sydney host Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday for an A-League Men clash at Allianz Stadium.

Western Sydney Wanderers’ last league match saw them beaten 1-0 by Perth Glory at HBF Park to snap a three-match unbeaten streak, leaving them in fourth place on 31 points through 20 matches.

Sydney sit in sixth place on 27 points through 20 matches. Sydney also lost their last A-League Men match 1-0 at Eden Park against Wellington Phoenix.

Sydney won the last A-League Men meeting between the teams, emerging victorious 1-0 at CommBank Stadium in February. Max Burgess scored the Sky Blues’ lone goal in the 16th minute.

Visitors Wanderers have been spearheaded in in the final third by Brandon Borrello, who has scored on eight occasions, including three match-opening goals. He ranks fifth in the league’s scoring charts in 2022/2023.

Adam Le Fondre, Róbert Mak, and Joe Lolley have made a difference in the final third for Sydney this season. Le Fondre is the team’s leading scorer with six goals, followed by Mak and Lolley with five each.

At Allianz Stadium this season, Sydney have secured 11 points (W3 D2 L4) from a possible 27 on offer in nine A-League Men contests. The Sky Blues are looking to extend a three-match home unbeaten streak (W2 D1 L0) dating to February 4 against Central Coast Mariners. In league matches away from CommBank Stadium this season, Wanderers have two wins, five draws, and three losses. The Wanderers are on an eight-match away winless streak (W0 D5 L3). They haven’t won away since November 2022 against Sydney.

In their last six league matches, Sydney have won three, drawn one and lost two. Wanderers, meanwhile, have won three, drawn one and lost two in their last six.
