Match Preview: Sydney Derby Elimination Final

Western Sydney Wanderers play host to Sydney in their A-League Men Elimination Final on Saturday at CommBank Stadium.

Western Sydney Wanderers are in fourth place on 41 points, scoring 43 goals and conceding 27. Wanderers lost their last A-League Men match 3-2 at AAMI Park against Melbourne City, ending a three-match undefeated run (W2 D1 L0).

Sydney’s last league match saw them triumph 2-0 over Newcastle Jets at home to extend their unbeaten streak to five (W3 D2 L0), leaving them in fifth place on 38 points. The Sky Blues have scored 40 goals while conceding 39 through 26 matches.

Wanderers won the last A-League Men meeting between the clubs, emerging victorious 4-0 at Allianz Stadium in March. Amor Layouni led the Wanderers with goals in the 21st and 75th minute. Kusini Yengi and Calem Nieuwenhof also were on the scoresheet.

Brandon Borrello has been a game-changer for Wanderers this season. The striker leads the club with 13 goals, which is the fourth highest in the league in 2022/2023, seven of those having been the critical first of the match.

Visitors Sydney have been led by Adam Le Fondre and Róbert Mak, who have netted 10 and nine times, respectively.

At CommBank Stadium this season, Wanderers have eight wins, two draws, and three losses in 13 A-League Men contests. In league matches on the road this season, Sydney have six wins, two draws, and five losses.
