Match Preview: Victory v Wanderers

Melbourne Victory will be bidding to prolong an undefeated run against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday when the two teams meet in an A-League Women clash at CB Smith Reserve.

Melbourne Victory are in fourth place on 18 points through 11 matches. Victory were defeated 6-3 in their last A-League Women match at home against Sydney, snapping an eight-match unbeaten streak (W5 D3 L0).

Western Sydney Wanderers’ last A-League Women match saw them triumph 1-0 over Newcastle Jets at home, putting them in seventh place on 11 points.

The last A-League Women meeting between the clubs, a January match at Wanderers Football Park, ended in a 0-0 draw.

Victory have got the better of Wanderers of late, unbeaten in their last five A-League Women matches (W3 D2 L0).

Wanderers are looking for their first league win in fixtures between the two teams since December 2018. Melbourne Victory Women have outscored Western Sydney Wanderers FC Women 8-1 during their unbeaten streak.

The performances of Melina Ayres, Kayla Morrison, and Alexandra Chidiac have been irreplaceable for Victory this season. Ayres is the team’s top scorer with five goals, which is tied for the third highest among the league’s top scorers in 2022/2023, followed by Morrison and Chidiac with four each.

Olivia Price, Amy Harrison, and Sheridan Gallagher have been Western Sydney Wanderers’ most prolific players this season, each netting twice.

In their last six league matches, Victory have won two, drawn three and lost one. Wanderers, meanwhile, have won three, drawn two and lost one in their last six.
