Melbourne City harbour hopes of extending an A-League Men winning streak that stands at three games when Western Sydney Wanderers host them at CommBank Stadium on Sunday.
Melbourne City earned a 4-0 victory over Western United at home in their last league match, their third consecutive win, leaving the visitors atop the table on 25 points, six points above Central Coast Mariners through 10 matches.
Western Sydney Wanderers sit in third place on 18 points through 11 matches. Wanderers lost their last A-League Men match 1-0 at Macedonia Park against Perth Glory.
The previous A-League Men fixture between the clubs saw Melbourne City win 3-1 at CommBank Stadium last season. Mathew Leckie led City with goals in the 36th and 43rd minute. Florin Berenguer also was on the scoresheet. Dimitri Petratos scored the Wanderers’ lone goal in the 80th minute with a penalty.
Melbourne City have got the better of Wanderers of late, unbeaten in their last six A-League Men matches (W4 D2 L0). Wanderers are looking for their first league win in encounters between the two teams since March 2019. City have outscored the Wanderers 16-8 during their unbeaten streak.
Jamie Maclaren has been the most prolific player for Melbourne City, netting on 13 occasions, including six match-opening goals. He sits top of the competition’s scoring charts in 2022/2023.
The trio of Brandon Borrello, Oliver Bozanic, and Yeni N’Gbakoto have provided stand-out moments for Wanderers this season. They are the team’s joint top scorers with two goals.
On home soil this season, Wanderers have three wins, one draw, and one loss in five A-League Men contests. Melbourne City boast a fine away record this season with four wins and just one loss in league matches away from home.
In their last six league matches, Wanderers have won two, drawn two and lost two. Melbourne City, meanwhile, have won five and lost one in their last six.
