Match Preview: Wanderers v Mariners

Central Coast Mariners head to face Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday for an A-League Men clash at CommBank Stadium.

Central Coast Mariners played out a 1-1 draw against Wellington Phoenix at Industree Group Stadium in their last league match to extend their unbeaten streak to three (W1 D2 L0), leaving them in second place on 28 points through 18 matches.

Western Sydney Wanderers are in third place on 28 points through 18 matches. Wanderers won their last A-League Men match 4-0 at home against Macarthur.

When the two sides last met in A-League Men action, they played out a 2-2 draw at Industree Group Stadium in January. Samuel Silvera and Jason Cummings found the net for Mariners. Yeni N’Gbakoto and Brandon Borrello were on target for the Wanderers.

Central Coast have got the better of Wanderers of late, unbeaten in their last five A-League Men matches (W2 D3 L0). Wanderers are looking for their first league win in games between the two clubs since January 2021. Mariners have outscored the Wanderers 11-6 during their unbeaten streak.

Cummings has been the leading attacking threat for Central Coast, scoring on 12 occasions. The striker ranks second in the league’s scoring charts in 2022/2023.

The performances of Borrello have been important for Wanderers this season. The striker leads the club with seven goals, which is tied for the fourth highest in the league, two of those having been the crucial first of the match.

At CommBank Stadium this season, Wanderers have secured 17 points (W5 D2 L2) from a possible 27 on offer in nine A-League Men contests. Central Coast have three wins, two draws, and three losses away from home this season in league matches.

In their last six league matches, Wanderers have won two, drawn three and lost one. Central Coast, meanwhile, have won one, drawn three and lost two in their last six.
