They come into the game off the back of an incredible comeback against top four side Melbourne Victory on Sunday night.
After taking the lead, the Wanderers unfortunately found themselves 4-2 down going into the final five minutes of the match.
But in an extraordinary turn of events, Talia Kapetanellis scored her first goal for the club off of the bench to set up a grandstand finish, and a point at the death was secured by reigning Dolan Medal winner Sophie Harding, who scored her second goal of the match to give the Wanderers a deserved share of the spoils.
It was a valiant effort from a side battling injury issues as well as coaching changes.
Maddy McComasky, Paige Hayward and Holly Caspers continue to be long term absentees, whilst there has been a change in head coach as Robbie Hooker has stepped down due to personal reasons.
He is being replaced in the interim by Youth Technical Director of Wanderers Girls Academy Geoff Abrahams, who also took charge of the side in the match against the Victory.
Whilst the girls will be happy with the fightback and the point against a strong Victory team, they are unfortunately still at the wrong end of the ladder, and need to pick up wins very quickly if they are to have a chance of a finals spot at the end of the season.
The Wanderers have been decimated by injuries at the back, they will be desperate to pick up a first clean sheet of the season against the Phoenix, and in general will look to be more solid in defence.
Going forward, there has been a significant improvement in recent weeks, with the Wanderers actually scoring more goals than their opponents going into this match.
Sienna Saveska has been in great form, with five goals in the season so far, including a brilliant long range effort against the Victory.
In what is a massive boost to the side, Sophie Harding broke her goal drought with a double, including seizing on a defensive mistake, and her clinical finish in the 92nd minute.
With her tally at three for the season now, the Red and Black will hope the floodgates will open as she gets her confidence and eye for goal back.
It will not be an easy clash for the Wanderers against a Phoenix side in the top six and proving hard to beat.
They have lost just one match in their last six, that one came against league leaders Melbourne City, and they defeated Perth 2-0 at home last weekend.
They have certainly recovered from a poor start to the season which saw them lose their first three games on the spin.
There are no standout goalscorers, but Football Ferns pair Annalie Longo and Grace Jale each have two goals this season and will prove to be threats.
Their defence is the equal best in the competition, but the Wanderers will be hoping Saveska and Harding can combine to good effect once again, as well as being buoyed by a passionate home crowd.
The Wanderers will look to reverse their fortunes against the Phoenix from last season, where they lost both games home and away, including in the final match of the season.
