Match Preview: Wanderers v Western United

Western United harbour hopes of extending an A-League Women winning streak that stands at seven games when Western Sydney Wanderers host them at Wanderers Football Park on Saturday.

Western United earned a 2-0 victory over Sydney at home in their last league match, their seventh consecutive win, leaving the visitors atop the table on 21 points, three points clear of Melbourne City through seven matches.

Western Sydney Wanderers are in 10th place on four points after seven matches. Wanderers won their last A-League Women match to secure a first league victory in 2022/2023 with a 2-0 triumph at home against Melbourne City, snapping a six-match winless streak (W0 D1 L5).

This is the first A-League Women meeting between the two clubs.

Visitors Western United have been spearheaded in in the final third by Hannah Keane, who has netted on five occasions. The striker is tied as the league’s top scorer in 2022/2023.

Sheridan Gallagher has caught the eye for Wanderers this season. She leads the club with two goals, one of which has been the critical first of the match.

Hosts Wanderers have one win and two losses this season in three A-League Women contests at home. Western United will be keen to continue a rich vein of away form, as they have earned three points in each of their league matches on their travels. Western United Women will be out to extend a four-match away winning streak. The last time they failed to win away was November 2022 against Wellington Phoenix.

In their last six league matches, Wanderers have won one, drawn one and lost four. Western United, meanwhile, have won seven straight league matches this season.
