Match Preview: Wanderers v Western United

Western Sydney Wanderers and Western United face off at CommBank Stadium on Sunday as two teams heading in opposite directions with the hosts looking to halt a four-match A-League Men winless streak and the visitors unbeaten in three straight.

Western Sydney Wanderers sit in third place on 21 points through 14 matches. Wanderers earned a point in their last A-League Men match, drawing 2-2 at Industree Group Stadium against Central Coast Mariners, extending their winless streak to four (W0 D3 L1).

Western United’s last A-League Men match resulted in a 2-2 draw against Macarthur at Campbelltown Stadium to extend their unbeaten streak to three (W1 D2 L0), leaving them in 11th place on 16 points.

The previous A-League Men fixture between the teams saw Western United come out on top 1-0 at GMHBA Stadium in December. Aleksandar Prijovic scored Western United’s only goal in the fifth minute.

Western United have got the better of Wanderers of late with wins in three straight clashes, dating to February 2022. Western United have outscored the Wanderers 5-2 during their winning streak.

Brandon Borrello, Yeni N’Gbakoto, and Oliver Bozanic have made a difference in crucial moments for Wanderers this season. Borrello is the club’s top scorer with four goals, followed by N’Gbakoto and Bozanic with three each.

Western United’s leading lights in attack have been Nicolas Milanovic, Lachlan Wales, and Prijovic, who have netted four, three, and three times, respectively.

At CommBank Stadium this season, Wanderers have three wins, two draws, and one loss in six A-League Men contests.

Western United will seek to address a poor run of results away from home this season with one draw, four losses, and just one win in league away contests. Western United are looking to reverse a three-match away winless streak (W0 D1 L2). The last time they won away was November 2022 against Wellington Phoenix.

In their last six league matches, Wanderers have won one, drawn four and lost one. Western United, meanwhile, have won two, drawn three and lost one in their last six.
