Match Preview: Western United v Wanderers

Western Sydney Wanderers travel to face Western United on Saturday for an A-League Women clash at City Vista Recreation Reserve Pitch 1.

Western United are atop the table on 36 points, two points above Sydney through 16 matches. Western United lost their last A-League Women match 3-0 at home against Canberra United.

Western Sydney Wanderers earned a 3-1 victory over Brisbane Roar at home in their last A-League Women match to extend their unbeaten streak to three (W1 D2 L0), leaving them in seventh place on 19 points.

Wanderers won the last A-League Women meeting between the sides, coming out on top 2-1 at Wanderers Football Park in January. Sarina Bolden opened the scoring for Western Sydney Wanderers FC Women in the 12th minute. Amy Harrison also found the net. Hannah Keane scored Western United Women’s only goal in the 26th minute.

The performances of Keane have been irreplaceable for Western United this season. The striker leads the club with 11 goals, which is the second highest among the league’s top scorers in 2022/2023.

Western Sydney Wanderers’ leading lights in attack have been Olivia Price, Harrison, and Bethany Gordon, who have scored three, three, and two times, respectively.

At City Vista Recreation Reserve Pitch 1 this season, Western United have five wins and three losses in eight A-League Women contests. Wanderers will be looking for their first win this season in away league matches, as they have six losses and two draws away from Wanderers Football Park. Western Sydney Wanderers FC Women will be out to end a 12-match away winless streak (W0 D3 L9). They haven’t won away since January 2022 against Brisbane Roar.

In their last six league matches, Western United have won two and lost four. Wanderers, meanwhile, have won two, drawn two and lost two in their last six.
