On Monday, 18 December 2023, the independent Match Review Panel (MRP)- consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Davidson and Con Diomis – convened to consider an incident outlined below arising in Round 8 of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2023-24 competitions.
Western Sydney Wanderers FC vs Adelaide United FC – Joshua Brillante (Western Sydney Wanderers FC)
The MRP considered an incident involving Joshua Brillante (Brillante)of Western Sydney Wanderers FC on or around the 77th minute of Western Sydney Wanderers FC’s A-League Men match against Adelaide United FC on Friday, 15 December 2023.
In accordance with the A-League Disciplinary Regulations (the Regulations),the MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Brillante was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.
The MRP determined that Brillante committed the offence of “serious foul play”. The minimum sanction for the offence is one (7) match, being the mandatory match suspension.
The MRP has proposed a suspension of two (2) matches for the offence, being the minimum sanction for the offence plus one (7) additional match.
