Wanderers defender Danika Matos on her very first season in the Westfield W-League and living up to expectations.
Matos was a train-on with the Red & Black last season and was promoted to a full-time contract in early January, going on to feature in three matches in her first season of the competition.
Looking back on the opportunities she was given with the Wanderers, Matos was thankful that all her hard work paid off.
“Being in my first season in the Westfield W-League I was very nervous and scared,” said Matos.
“All I wanted was to live up to the standard that Dean, coaching staff and players expected.
“I put in the effort and it showed that effort pays off. I learnt so much from all the players around me and everyone was so supportive.
“I learnt so much throughout the season, I developed as a player and gained so much confidence.”
Looking ahead to her second season in the competition, Matos is confident the Red & Black can pick up where they left off and go one step forward.
“I’d like to develop even more as a player and try to play as many games as possible in the Red & Black jersey.
“I’d love to see us make Semi Finals again and go that step forward to make it to the Final and make even more history for the club.”
