Mrcela: It’s a fantastic occasion

Defender Tomi Mrcela on what it will be like to face English Premier League side Everton in the Sydney Super Cup.

The Wanderers will face the Premier League heavyweights in November prior to the World Cup break with Mrcela expecting a great contest to be on display at CommBank Stadium.

“It’s a fantastic occasion, for the club, for the players and the fans to have a club like Everton coming to our City to play a game against us,” said Mrcela.

“They are coming from probably the strongest league in the world, so it’s going to be a good test, an exciting test and we’re looking forward to it.

“I think we will do good, why not. We’ll do our best.

“It’ll be well into our season so hopefully we will be able to enter that game with some good games behind us in the A-Leagues and good start to the season.

“Hopefully we can also gain more confidence after that game for the next games in the A-Leagues.”

The match against Everton won’t be the first time Mrcela has faced Premier League opposition having faced Manchester United when they came to Perth in 2019.

“I had the opportunity to play against Manchester United three years and it’s a massive occasion for the fans, a full stadium and for us players to see where we are at against the best,” explained Mrcela.

“We have to use that in a good way to test ourselves and to see where we are, hopefully it helps us and the league grow.”
