Western Sydney Wanderers FC are very proud to confirm the re-signing of defender Tomi Mrcela for the next two Isuzu UTE A-League seasons.
Having joined the Red & Black in February 2022 as an injury-replacement player, Mrcela was immediately thrown into the action making 12 appearances in the back-end of the season for the club.
The towering defender arrived in Western Sydney with a wealth of international experience having played in the Indian Super League, K-League and Croatian First Football League.
Domestically, Mrcela was part of the Perth Glory squad that won the Premiers Plate in 2019.
Western Sydney Wanderers head coach Mark Rudan spoke highly of Mrcela’s commitment to the club.
“Tomi played a very pivotal role of us last season in the heart of defence and off the field in our changerooms,” said Rudan.
“An experienced leader, Tomi understands the expectations we have and is determined to achieve our goals this coming season.”
Mrcela said he’s ready to go all in this A-Leagues season.
“We need to go all in this season,” said Mrcela.
“There’s no more excuses. We didn’t have success last season and I haven’t had success for the last few years so I think this season needs to be a big one.
“I decided not to have a break (post-season). To be honest, I wanted to work on my body to get it into the best possible shape for the first day of pre-season.
“I think I’ll have enough time to have holidays after my career. The career is short so I want to make the most out of it.”
