Nieuwenhof inks two-year scholarship deal

Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed the signing of Calem Nieuwenhof on a two-year scholarship deal.

The midfielder has frequented the club’s cross-town rival Academy squads, where he worked his way up through the ranks over the last seven seasons.

Nieuwenhof was a breakout star in the 2020/21 A-Leagues season prior to injury, making his senior debut in the AFC Asian Champions League against Shanghai SIPG.

The 21-year-old went on to make 15 appearances and score one goal for the A-Leagues team across all competitions.

Nieuwenhof said he was excited to be part of a new environment.

“Looking over, I’ve always seen the Wanderers as a great club and one of the biggest in Australia,” said Nieuwenhof.

“I was really excited to come here and I was looking for a change of scenery, a new environment and I think this is one I can thrive in.

“One of the key characteristics of the Wanderers is passion, all the way from the fan base to the playing team. Football is different out here in the West, there’s so many young players coming through the ranks and it’s the home of football.

“I feel that if I can string a few games together and have a good season, then I’ll get to show my ability for the Wanderers.

“I think it’s going to be a great new squad and I’m keen to learn so much from the players that are around me.”
