Wanderers midfielder Calem Nieuwenhof has praised new teammate Morgan Schneiderlin for his instant impact at the club, after the former Premier League midfielder and France international made his Isuzu UTE A-League debut in the Wanderers’ 1-0 win over Western United on Sunday afternoon.
Nieuwenhof played from the start in the slender win at Commbank Stadium, with Schneiderlin arriving off the bench in the 76th minute to contribute to the host’s clean sheet display.
It was a win which could have been far more comfortable had the Wanderers managed to make the most of a number of gilt-edged chances; regardless, taking three points from Western United helped Marko Rudan’s side jump into second spot on the A-League Men table.
Schneiderlin’s arrival has coincided with questions regarding where the experienced midfielder would fit into the Wanderers’ starting XI, considering the strong form of Nieuwenhof, Romain Amalfitano and Oliver Bozanic who have played key roles in Western Sydney’s midfield through 15 rounds of the campaign.
“I think we’re going to have to find a way to fit him in!” Nieuwenhof told Paramount+ in the aftermath of his side’s 1-0 win.
“He’s an awesome player, you can already tell with the limited amount of time he’s been at our club. In training he’s top class.
We’re all really keen to see what he can bring to the team – I think it’s going to be a lot.
