Our NPL side faces a massive Sydney Derby at home as they look to grab a second win in a row in their battle to stay out of the relegation zone.
The Wanderers produced their best performance of the season last weekend, as they destroyed fellow academy side Bulls FC 5-0, with Zac Sapsford scoring a wonderful double and grabbing an assist in a man of the match performance.
It is the perfect tonic for a crucial derby match, where the stakes are made even higher by the fact the season now has less than a month to go until it is completed.
The Wanderers win over the Bulls lifted them outside of the relegation zone, sitting a point ahead of Mt Druitt Town Rangers, who also have a much worse goal difference.
Not only are the Wanderers playing to secure their survival, they are also looking to complete the double over their city rivals after their victory in the reverse fixture in April.
On that night, a Wanderers side in indifferent form put in an excellent performance, keeping a precious clean sheet and taking home a 1-0 victory thanks to a Zac Sapsford goal midway through the first half against his former club.
On that day Oscar Priestman was wearing sky blue, but he will now play his first Sydney Derby since joining the red & black, where he has become a key figure in midfield, with his calmness on the ball and intelligence elevating the side; he also got an assist for Sapsford’s wonder goal last week.
Our opponents have struggled for consistency in recent times, having failed to notch up consecutive victories together since early June, and having been trounced 6-2 by Wollongong Wolves just two weeks ago.
It is set to be a mammoth derby clash at Fairfield Showgrounds, with so much at stake at the business end of the season.
