The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL side are on the road once again as they travel to WIN Stadium to face the Wollongong Wolves on Sunday evening.
The Wanderers are looking to change a run of form that has seen them fail to win in their last three games despite highly competitive performances, most recently in a 4-3 loss to Sydney United.
The Wanderers held a 3-1 lead at one stage, but the experience of the opposition saw them finish the game strongly to pick up the three points.
There have been positives despite the disappointing results; the side’s attack has flourished in the step up to NPL level, scoring 10 goals in four games. Marcus Younis has been a constant threat down the right wing, and he scored a goal of the highest quality last round, and Nathaniel Blair scored from the spot to take his tally to three goals so far this season.
The key to arresting the downturn in form will undoubtedly be in keeping out the goals at the back, and much of that will fall on the shoulders of Alex Bonetig and Edmond Lupancu, who both have senior A-League Men’s experience.
Their opponents like the Wanderers have also only won one game so far this season, that came in round two against Sutherland. The Wolves are led by experienced striker Lachlan Scott who has become a key figure over many years at the club.
Their most recent outing was a 1-1 draw against the Bulls FC Academy, where a Josh Macdonald goal for the Wolves was cancelled out by Sunday Yona in the first half.
A win for the Wanderers would see them move above their hosts and give their season a crucial boost as they head into a tough run of fixtures over the next month.
