The Wanderers Academy National Premier League 1 first grade team have wrapped up their season with a 5-2 loss against Blacktown City at Lily Homes Stadium on Saturday night.
Blacktown were wasting no time continuing their hot run of form, scoring four goals in quick succession. Matt Lewis, Grant Lynch, and a Hassan Jalloh brace gave City a large lead just 16 minutes into the half.
It wasn’t until the half-hour mark until the Wanderers worked their way back into the game with some chances falling to Ali Auglah, who would have opened the scoring for the Red & Black if not for some brilliant saves from Blacktown goalkeeper Dylan Niski.
In the 37th minute of the game, Lochlan Constable was brought down inside the box, and it was Constable himself who converted his penalty to give the Wanderers some hope.
The flurry of goals dried up in the second half as Patrick Zwaanswijk’s men looked more solidified at the back.
More chances fell to Ali Auglah, however it was Hassam Jalloh who scored the next goal and completed his hattrick in the 75th minute of the game.
The Wanderers struck back just four minutes later with a superb left-footed effort from Auglah, as he was finally rewarded for a good performance.
Ultimately, though, Auglah’s goal wasn’t going to spark a comeback for the Red & Black who were made to pay for a slow start to the match.
