NPL 1 Wrap: Wanderers share the spoils in six goal draw with Blacktown City

The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 1 side were forced to settle for a point in a chaotic 3-3 draw with Blacktown City at Wanderers Football Park, in a match packed with goals and late drama.

The Red & Black made a blistering start and looked in complete control early on. Jai Rose opened the scoring midwaythrough the first half after the Wanderers capitalised on sustained attacking pressure, before Awan Lual doubled the advantage shortly after with a composed finish following a perfectly weighted through ball from Julian Cop.

Lual’s strike continued his impressive form in front of goal and gave the Wanderers what appeared to be a commanding lead.

However, Blacktown City gradually worked their way back into the contest before the break. Veteran forward Travis Majorreacted quickest to a rebound to pull one back, shifting momentum late in the half and giving the visitors belief heading into the interval.

The second half continued at a frantic pace, with both sides trading chances in transition. Blacktown eventuallyfound their equaliser through Mitchell Mallia as the Wanderers were punished for failing to fully clear their lines, setting up a tense final period with neither side willing to settle for a draw.

While the Wanderers again showed their attacking threat and ability to break sides open quickly, the match highlighted the importance of controlling momentum during key periods.

The Red & Black were clinical in transition and dangerous whenever they moved forward with speed, but Blacktown repeatedly found opportunities to respond, particularly during moments where the Wanderers struggled to slow the tempo defensively.

But in keeping with the night’s unpredictable nature, Blacktown City responded once again late in the contest to complete their comeback.

Despite surrendering their early lead, the Wanderers continued to push forward and brought it back through Oscar Moore, whose finish restored the game and brought it back to 3-3.

While there will be frustration at letting a two-goal lead slip, the Wanderers’ attacking quality once again stood out, withthe side continuing to show why they remain one of the competition’s most dangerous teams going forward.
