The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 1 side produced a superb second-half comeback to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory over Sutherland Sharks on Friday night, turning an early setback into a memorable win at Seymour Shaw Park.
The match began with both sides showing attacking intent in the early stages. Oscar Moore created the Wanderers’ first opening, firing narrowly wide from distance.
The home side broke through in the 23rd minute when Jacob McLachlan’s strike was parried by Vidackovic into the path of Shoueiki, who reacted quickly to convert the rebound and give Sutherland the lead.
The Wanderers’ responded with Atiya Waraga from outside the box, and the winger unleashed a thunderous strike that flew into the top corner to level the match in spectacular fashion.
The visitors nearly added a second before halftime as they began to build momentum. Danijel Nizic was forced into two saves, denying Abdul-Rahman and Awan Lual to keep the scores level heading into the break.
The Red and Black returned for the second half with renewed energy and began to assert control of the contest. Lual came close on multiple occasions as the Wanderers searched for the go-ahead goal.
The Sharks, however, nearly caught the visitors out late in the match when a quick goal kick from Nizic released Nicholas Olsen down the left flank. The Wanderers made their pressure count shortly afterwards.

With seven minutes remaining, Lual played the ball through to Harper Ryles, who found Lachlan Sattout in space. The forward kept his composure to give the Wanderers a 2-1 lead.
Oscar Morrison appeared to have added a spectacular third when he sent a free kick into an empty net after spotting Nizic off his line, only for the referee to rule that play had not yet restarted.
Moments later, the Wanderers did find their third goal. From the retaken free kick, the ball eventually fell to Jesse Cameron, who calmly finished to extend the lead in the 90th minute.
Sutherland managed a late goal through Thijs van Amerongen in stoppage time, but it was not enough to deny the Wanderers, who held on to complete a hard-fought comeback victory in one of the most entertaining matches of the season.
The victory showcased the Wanderers’ resilience and attacking quality, with the side refusing to be deterred after falling behind early in the match. A combination of individual brilliance and well-worked team play ultimately proved decisive.
The performance not only secured an important three points but also highlighted the squad’s growing confidence and determination as they continue to build momentum in the competition.
