NPL Preview: Bankstown Berries vs Wanderers

This Saturday night, the Western Sydney Wanderers will be looking to register their third consecutive victory in the NPL 2 when they travel to The Crest Athletic Centre to play Bankstown Berries.

The Wanderers are currently in 5th place, whilst the Berries are in 6th, so the game will be a crucial test for both teams to attempt to secure their place in the finals.

The Berries are led by player-coach Perry Moustakas who has both experience playing and coaching overseas.

Moustakas is also the team’s joint top scorer with seven goals, tied with midfielders Jake Bradshaw and Daniel Fornito.

The Bankstown-based outfit is in good form having only lost one of their last six games.

In addition to their recent success in the NPL 2, the Berries have also qualified for the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16 for the very first time.

The Red & Black will be looking to continue their attacking momentum from last weekend’s match against Macarthur Rams.

Kyle Cimenti will be hoping to repeat his impressive performance after grabbing two goals and an assist in that match.

Cimenti is now the team’s top scorer with seven goals.

Wanderers fullback Thomas Aquillina has also impressed. After starting the season in the U16 squad, Aquillina has moved up the through the ranks making his debut for the NPL 2 squad last weekend.

Aquillina was also selected for the NSW Combined High Schools squad earlier in the year and has played nine times for Australia at the U17 level.
