NPL Preview: Manly v Wanderers

Our NPL NSW side head into their clash against Manly United, knowing a victory would see them take a huge step towards securing safety within the division.

The sides back-to-back wins has lifted them out of the relegation zone and they now sit three points clear of Mt Druitt Town Rangers with a far superior goal difference.

Their last match was a second straight Sydney Derby win of the season, where goals from Alex Badolato and Zac Sapsford secured a vital three points in a 2-1 victory.

The side will be weakened this weekend, though, as a large chunk of the squad will be away on a pre-season camp with the first team squad, including many of the players who have excelled in recent weeks in the improved run of form.

It will put pressure on the likes of Teng Kuol and Josh Hong at centre back, as well as the exciting Adam Bugarija who has broken through in recent weeks and scored a stunning goal in a 5-0 win over Bulls FC Academy two weeks ago.

The Wanderers will take solace in the fact they defeated Manly United in the reverse fixture despite playing the majority of the match with a man less, as two Sapsford goals secured a 2-1 victory at Wanderers Football Park.

Manly were struggling at the wrong end of the table for much of the season and were looking nervously over their shoulder, however a four match unbeaten run featuring three wins on the bounce has seen them climb away from danger and they now look likely to secure a mid table finish.

They did fall to a 3-1 defeat away to Wollongong Wolves last week, with two first half goals for the Wolves setting them up for success.

A win for the Wanderers could see them go six points clear of Mt Druitt if results go their way, setting them up nicely for the visit of Rangers to Wanderers Football Park on the 20th August.
