On Thursday night, the Wanderers NPL 2 team will take on St George City FA in a rescheduled Round 24 clash at Valentine Sports Park.
Newly promoted St George City FA are currently in tenth place and are coming off a 1-0 win over Macarthur Rams on the weekend.
Their squad features former Wanderers youth players Steve Kuzmanovski and Tacettin Kumsuz while they also have some Hyundai A-League experience in the form of Corey Gameiro.
When the Red & Black last faced the side in May, goals from Mohamed Adam, Jarrod Carluccio and Jacob Vasiliou gave the Wanderers a 3-0 victory.
The selection of four Wanderers players in the Young Socceroos squad that won the AFF U-18 Championship on Monday night has provided an opportunity for other players in the Wanderers Academy to step up.
One of those players is Thomas McPherson, who made his NPL 2 first grade debut two weeks ago against Bonnyrigg White Eagles.
The central defender has been a regular member of the U20s backline, one that has kept nine clean sheets this season.
A former Marconi Stallions junior, McPherson was also part of last year’s U20 Championship winning team.
Dean Pelekanos has also impressed in the lower grades, playing in every U20s game this season.
Normally used in the central midfield, Pelekanos is a new addition to the Wanderers Academy having joined the club from Blacktown City at the start of the year.
Pelekanos was part of the Australian Schoolboys team that toured the United Kingdom and Ireland in January and made his first grade debut in April against Spirit FC.
