NPL Preview: Wanderers vs Mounties

The Western Sydney Wanderers will be aiming to return to the NPL 2 winners circle when they host Mounties at Sydney United Sports Centre on Saturday night.

A surprise loss to Bankstown Berries last week means the second-placed Red & Black are now six points off league leaders Marconi Stallions.

Mounties, who are sitting in sixth place after a 2-1 come-from-behind win against Blacktown Spartans last week, will prove a tough test for Trevor Morganā€™s young side.

Headed by Lee Sterrey, a former National Soccer League coach with Newcastle, Mounties have found a solid run of form in recent weeks, losing only one of their last five games, while also boasting the second best defensive record in the competition.

The Wanderers meanwhile have the second most prolific attack in the competition and have only been kept scoreless once this season.

Chief among their attack has been 18-year-old Abraham Majok, who has just signed on as a Scholarship Player with the Hyundai A-League squad.

Fellow Hyundai A-League squad members Keanu Baccus and Jackson Bandiera have also featured regularly throughout the season for an NPL 2 side that is brimming with bright young talent.

While Majok is the teamā€™s top scorer with four goals, he is far from the only attacking threat for the Red & Blackā€”15 different players have found the back of the net.

Entry to the match is FREE for all Wanderers Members, while tickets for non-Members are $10 for adults and $5 for concession card holders.
