The Wanderers take on a North Shore Mariners side in desperate need for club championship points on Saturday night.

KICK-OFF: Western Sydney Wanderers v North Shore Mariners. 7.00pm at Blacktown Football Park

After clinching a 3-3 draw in dramatic circumstances on the Central Coast last Sunday the Wanderers are back at Blacktown Football Park this weekend to host bottom-placed North Shore Mariners.

NPL v Mariners

Although Trevor Morgan’s side failed to take full advantage of Sydney FC’s loss to Fraser Park in Round 22 the Red & Black now hold a two point advantage over the Sky Blues and will be out to extend that gap with a win tonight.

With Sydney set to play host to Central Coast Mariners at Lambert Park later in the evening, the Wanderers could potentially open up a five point advantage over their second-placed rivals should a victory by followed by the Sky Blues lose to their Mariners opponents.

It would set up what looks to be an increasingly definitive final weekend of the regular season in which the Wanderers host Sydney at Popondetta Park in late August – but before that, the competition leaders must focus on a slew of tricky fixtures.

Dates with Marconi and Mounties Wanderers are set to follow the encounter with the Northbridge Oval outfit, leaving Morgan’s men with little room for error in Saturday’s important clash.

Jordan Morfitis NPL Bankstown City

And despite Joe Haywood’s side on course for relegation as things stand, his North Shore team have been commendably resolute in the last month where the competition cellar dwellers have, somewhat outstandingly, collected four consecutive 0-0 stalemates against Bankstown Berries, Fraser Park, Central Coast and Mounties Wanderers.

With this steely streak only ended by a 3-1 loss to Marconi last week and with the Mariners fighting for their competition lives, the Wanderers will have it all to do at Blacktown Football Park.
