NPL Women’s Wrap: Bulls FC Academy defeat Wanderers

The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL Women’s side have gone down 1-0 to the Bulls FC Academy at the Northbridge Oval.

The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL Women’s side fell to Bulls FC Academy in a tightly contested match, with a strong defensive effort limiting the Bulls to a single goal.

It took only 76 seconds for the Wanderers to fire their first chance, when Nikkita Fazzari found herself in space following a fantastic cross field ball by Alvina Khoshaba.

Although, the strike would roll into the path of the Bulls Goalkeeper, as the chance went begging

Moments later, Elizabeth Gray would fire a shot from distance that would fly off the crossbar, in what could have been fatal for the Red and Black.

Aimee Hall then denied Jynaya Dos Santos with a fantastic flying save as her shot looked destined for the top corner.

The 23rd minute saw Hall pull off another fantastic double save, as she denied Petria Phillips’ close range strike, and followed up by another reflex save to deny the rebound.

Shortly thereafter, Petria Phillips would force her way past Charlotte Bradshaw to poke the opener past Aimee Hall.

Christa Oliva had the chance to equalise just before the break following a fantastic run in behind, only to be denied by Bulls Goalkeeper Nemoto.

Anika Stajcic then saw her rebounded shot cleared off the line by Gemma Ferris who denied her former team mate the equaliser in what looked to be inches away from changing the landscape of the game.

The second stanza proved to be a game of possession, as the Bulls looked to starve the Red and Black of the ball in a bid to control the game and protect their one goal lead.

The Wanderers best chance came through a long distanced attempt from Millie Bennett who found the target on the bounce but was unable to trouble the opposition keeper.

The Wanderers will be disappointed by their lack of finishing across the 90 minutes but can take pride in a strong performance against the competition leaders, having contained them to just a single goal.

They will next take on Sydney University on Sunday.
