The Wanderers extended their unbeaten start to the season to seven matches after being held to a 1-1 draw by Bulls FC Academy in a tightly contested encounter at Northbridge Oval.
Facing another top-four opponent, the Wanderers began with confidence and quickly established control through midfield, using possession well and forcing Bulls FC Academy to spend long periods without the ball during the opening half.
Their early pressure was rewarded when Ruby Betro found the breakthrough, receiving the ball inside the area before producing a composed finish into the bottom corner to give the Red and Black a deserved lead.
The goal reflected a strong opening period from the Wanderers, who created several promising moments before the break and looked comfortable in their defensive shape whenever Bulls attempted to transition forward. Savannah Murray continued to provide assurance at the back, while the midfield worked effectively to limit the home side’s rhythm.
Although the Wanderers entered half-time with only a one-goal advantage, the performance suggested there could have been greater reward for their dominance, with several attacking sequences falling just short of producing a second goal.
The visitors again threatened after the restart, with Murray delivering dangerous balls forward and substitute Alyssa McKenzie immediately adding energy in attacking areas. McKenzie came close midway through the half after weaving through defenders, only to be denied by the goalkeeper.
As the second half progressed, Bulls FC Academy began to enjoy more possession and increasingly tested the Wanderers through set-piece situations. The Red and Black remained organised for much of that period, with Keep producing an important intervention late as the pressure began to build.
The equaliser arrived in the 78th minute when Bulls capitalised from a corner, with Gemma Ferris finding space at the back post to head home and bring the home side level.
The Wanderers continued to search for a winner in the closing stages, with Nikkita Fazzari and Alyssa McKenzie both involved in late attacking moments, but neither side could find the decisive breakthrough.
While there was some frustration after leading for much of the contest, the result ensured the Wanderers remain unbeaten and continued a strong run against quality opposition as the side keeps building momentum in the early stages of the campaign.
