The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 2 first grade team’s unbeaten run has come to an end after suffering a 2-0 loss to league leader Mt Druitt Town Rangers at Sydney United Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Hiten Satoh and Manny Gonzalez sealed the win for Mt Druitt with the Wanderers staying in fifth place on the ladder.

The Wanderers were under pressure early on and debutant goalkeeper made a great save to deny Alvin Singh.

A minute later, Adrian Venti did brilliantly to clear a goalbound header off the line.

The Red & Black began to get into the game and Mohamed Adam was inches away from connecting with a great cross from Tate Russell.

Adam then had an opportunity after getting on the end of a crossfield pass, forcing an excellent save from Mt Druitt goalkeeper Carlos Saliadarre.

Greenwood was on hand again, making a solid save to deny Gonzalez, but Mt Druitt took the lead soon after when Satoh scored from just inside the penalty area.

The Wanderers responded and Perry Fotakopoulos had a shot from distance which went inches wide of the target, while at the other end  Greenwood made a flying save to deny Lachlan Roberts.

Early in the second half, Mt Druitt doubled their lead, with Gonzalez volleying in from a corner.

The team didn’t let their heads drop and Adam played a great through ball for Oliver Puflett whose shot was blocked by the defence.

Samuel Silvera was the next Wanderer to try his luck and he was unlucky to see his shot deflected straight towards the goalkeeper.

With not much time left, Wanderers substitute Rory Jordan managed to get inside the penalty area before being stopped by a desperate lunge.

Mathieu Cordier then had another chance after pushing up from the back, only to see his shot blocked.

Mt Druitt were to looking to attack on the counter and both Valenti and Tacettin Kumsuz made vital interventions on the edge of the penalty area.

There were further chances for the Red & Black through Silvera and Fotakopoulos, but Mt Druitt hung on for the victory.

Next Saturday, the Wanderers will be at Sydney United Sports Centre to take on North Shore Mariners. Kick-off is at 7:00pm.
