Outcome of Match Review Panel

On Monday, 13 February 2023, the independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Contini, and Alan Davidson – convened to consider two (2) incidents outlined below arising in Round 16 of the 2022-23 Isuzu UTE A-League Men competition. 

Round 16 Isuzu UTE A-League Men: Perth Glory FC vs Melbourne City FC – Darryl Lachman (Perth Glory FC)

The MRP considered an incident involving Darryl Lachman (Lachman) of Perth Glory FC in or around the 60th minute of Perth Glory FC’s A-League Men match against Melbourne City FC on Saturday, 11 February 2023. 

In accordance with the A-Leagues Disciplinary Regulations (the Regulations), the MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Lachman was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.  

The MRP determined that Lachman committed the offence of “denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, as prescribed in Law 12 of the Laws of the Game”. The minimum sanction for the offence is one (1) match, being the Mandatory Match Suspension. The MRP confirmed that Lachman will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the minimum sanction for the offence.

Round 16 Isuzu UTE A-League Men: Western Sydney Wanderers FC vs Sydney FC – Yeni N’Gbakoto (Western Sydney Wanderers FC) 

The MRP considered an incident involving Yeni N’Gbakoto (N’Gbakoto) of Western Sydney Wanderers FC in or around the 65thminute of Western Sydney Wanderers FC’s A-League Men match against Sydney FC on Saturday 11 February 2023. 

In accordance with the A-Leagues Disciplinary Regulations (the Regulations), the MRP has the authority to consider the incident as N’Gbakoto was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.  

The MRP determined that N’Gbakoto committed the offence of “Assault on a Player (e.g., violent conduct when not challenging for the ball) or against any other person other than a Match Official, including attempted Assault”. The minimum sanction for the offence is two (2) matches, being the Mandatory Match Suspension plus one (1) additional match. The MRP confirmed that N’Gbakoto will serve a suspension of two (2) matches, being the minimum sanction for the offence.
