Pickett joins Red & Black ahead of season opener

Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed the signing of defender Laura Pickett for the 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women season.

Pickett arrives from Melbourne Victory with 34 A-League Women appearances to her name, bringing experience across both full-back positions and involvement in consecutive Finals Series campaigns.

After making her competition debut against Adelaide United in November 2024, Pickett made 18 appearances in her breakthrough season, including 11 starts, as Victory progressed to the 2025 Grand Final.

The defender featured in Victory’s semi-final victory over Adelaide United and was named in the matchday squad for the decider against Central Coast Mariners at AAMI Park.

Pickett continued to build her experience during the 2025/26 campaign, including a starting appearance in the first leg of Victory’s semi-final against Melbourne City.

Wanderers head coach Geoff Abrahams said Pickett would bring valuable competition experience to the Red & Black.

“Laura has established herself at A-League level and has been part of a squad competing deep into the Finals Series over the past two seasons,” said Abrahams.

“That experience is valuable for our group. She understands the demands of the competition and what it takes to compete for a place in a strong squad.

“Her ability to play on either side of the defence gives us flexibility, and we see a real opportunity for her to continue developing and take on greater responsibility here.”

Pickett also joins following a Premiership-winning Victorian NPL campaign with Box Hill United, where she played alongside fellow Wanderers recruits Sofia Palywoda and Rhianna Pollicina.

With the season opener approaching, Abrahams said the focus was on putting the squad’s preparation into practice.

“We want players who are ready to challenge themselves and help drive the standards of the group,” said Abrahams.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Laura into the team and getting our season underway in front of our Members and fans.”

The Wanderers will open their 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women campaign against Pickett’s former club Melbourne Victory at Wanderers Football Park on Saturday 17 October.
