We spoke with Coach Tony Popovic after the 1-nil victory over Parramatta FC at Parramatta Stadium last night in front of 1,063 fans.
With a number of players being rested from the match, including Mark Bridge, Shannon Cole, Ante Covic, Aaron Mooy and Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Coach Popovic says it is all part of the preparation.
“We have been going about our business and working on our football,” he said. “This is what pre-season is about and it is all part of our plan heading towards the Central Coast match.”
In a match where there were a number of players who got their first minutes in Wanderers colours, it was players such as Mateo Poljak, Iacopo La Rocca and Tahj Minniecon who will benefit the most.
“They-re getting there slowly (Poljak and La Rocca), this is a new experience for them and they haven-t had a run for four months so they are beginning to understand how we want to play.
“Tahj (Minniecon) as well, came on at the end which will benefit him and also give him the confidence he needs to get back to the level we know he can,” he added.
On top of the preparation, Popovic also commended the passionate Members and supporters who have become part of the Wanderers family.
“They are very passionate and we are pleased that they are on this journey with us together, we will do good things together and I-m sure that they-ll be proud of their team .”
