The Western Sydney Wanderers Powerchair team is in the elimination final against Central Coast Mariners this Saturday at Kevin Betts Stadium, Mt Druitt. Kick-off is 3pm.
Powerchair football is a variation on football where two teams of four players in electric wheelchairs compete.
Â
The season so far has had its fair share of mixed results with almost all team members getting onto the score sheet. The highlight so far was coming from 2-0 down with ten minutes to go in the Sydney Derby and finishing the match at 3-3.
Â
“In becoming a more structured team we’ve been able to see some of our players really shine and start to stand out in the competition,” said team member Andy Waite.
Â
“We’ve definitely improved with more wins, we’re still not quite where we want to be but we’ve always been wanting to push forward and further up the ladder, we won’t be content with our game until we’re up the top of the table.”
Â
The Wanderers have had the wood over the Mariners this season but with injuries meaning the Red & Black won’t have any subs on board, it could be a tough battle our on the court. After finishing wooden spooners for the past two seasons, this is a great chance for the Wanderers to turn it all around and be within one match of the grand final.
