Western Sydney Wanderers FC have recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Cental Coast Mariners in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday afternoon.

The Wanderers were rarely troubled in what was a solid hit out in preparation for their FFA Cup Round of 16 match against Sydney United next Wednesday.

The win was built on an excellent first half with the Wanderers scoring goals through Pirmin Schwegler and Mohamed Adam within the first half-hour.

The Red & Black opened the scoring through Schwegler following Radoslaw Majewski’s corner from the left.

The ball fell to Schwegler on the edge of the box, who powered home a first-time volley that took a deflection before finding the back of the net.

A second goal followed 15 minutes later after a nice build-up that started on half-way.

Eventually, the ball made its way to Kwame Yeboah, who got to the byline and provided a quality pass for Adam to slot home from close range.

Western Sydney made most of the running in the opening 45 minutes and were very solid at the back with Tass Mourdoukoutas, Dylan McGowan and Tarek Elrich contributing to the side’s clean sheet.

Goalkeeper Daniel Lopar had little to do, though he made one superb save, diving full stretch to his right to save a free kick from Tommy Oar.

During the closing minutes, the Mariners pushed to pull one back but the Wanderers defence stayed compact and calm, handling the pressure comfortably.

The Red & Black will now switch their attention to next Wednesday night’s FFA Cup clash against Sydney United at Campbelltown Stadium. Kick-off is at 7:30pm.
